Made for Android

The same detection engine as on iPhone.

The Android app uses the same tempo detection engine as the iPhone app, with live BPM, a confidence indicator, and a scrolling tempo display.

Listen through your phone’s microphone, follow the tempo, and send the reading to the metronome when you’re ready to play along.

What it does

On your phone, in the room.

🎯

Live BPM with a confidence indicator

Follow the BPM as the music plays. The confidence indicator shows when the reading has settled, and the tempo display updates as the music changes.

🔊

Your music keeps playing

MagicBPM listens through the microphone without taking the audio session from Spotify, YouTube Music or anything else. Start a measurement without stopping the track.

🎵

Names the track

Tap Identify for the title and artist next to the tempo, then open it in Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, TIDAL or SoundCloud, whichever you set under Open in.

🎼

Ready for practice

Up to 300 BPM with eight time signatures, an accented downbeat, subdivisions into eighths, triplets and sixteenths, a standard click plus 12 additional sounds with Pro, and a haptic pulse on every beat. It keeps clicking off screen, with the controls in a notification.

↕️

Half or double, one tap

Some music can be counted at half or double the tempo. The Half, Detected and Double controls move it where you meant, and it stays there.

🔒

On-device by design

Tempo detection never leaves the phone: audio is analyzed live and discarded, never recorded, never uploaded. Song identification sends a fingerprint of the sound, not the sound itself.

First run

How to check the BPM on an Android phone.

If the reading will not settle, move closer to the source, reduce background noise, or narrow the tempo range in Settings when you already know roughly what to expect. Bluetooth hands-free routes deliver a lower capture rate than the built-in microphone, which the detector handles, but the phone's own microphone is still the most reliable.

Free, with a one-time Pro upgrade

Get MagicBPM on Google Play.

Detection, the metronome, tap tempo and song identification with a tap are free. Pro is a single purchase through Google Play, never a subscription.

  • Auto-identify songs as they play, hands-free
  • Detected Songs history: every song with its BPM, artwork and a link into your music app
  • 12 additional metronome sounds, with previews before you buy
  • Every ad removed

Android questions

Which Android version does it need?

Android 9 or later. The Google Play listing carries the exact current minimum, since it moves with each release.

Is it the same detector as the iPhone version?

Yes. Both apps use the same detection core. We compare their readings using identical recordings to check that they stay consistent.

Can it read the BPM while Spotify or YouTube Music is playing?

Yes, as long as the sound comes out of a speaker. MagicBPM listens through the microphone and does not take the audio session away from your music app, so playback carries on while the tempo locks in. For music playing only through headphones, use tap tempo instead: the microphone cannot hear that audio. More on that here.

Does the metronome keep playing in the background?

Yes. The click carries on when you leave the app or lock the screen, and a notification holds the controls: play and stop, and adjust the tempo by 1 or 5 BPM in either direction. Android asks for notification permission the first time you press Play, since that notification is what lets the click keep running. The iPhone build does the same thing through a Live Activity.

Is MagicBPM Pro a subscription on Google Play?

No. Pro is a single one-time purchase through Google Play. If you reinstall or change phones, Restore Purchases brings it back on the same Google account. Detection, the metronome, tap tempo and song identification with a tap are free without it.

Can I change the app's language?

Yes, in nine languages: English, German, Japanese, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, Korean and Ukrainian. On Android 13 and later the app appears in the system per-app language screen; below that, pick it under App language in the app's own settings.
