The other half

It can also just tell you the tempo.

Point it at whatever is playing and it reads the BPM live through the microphone, on the device. One tap sends that number to the metronome.

Free, no download

Hear it before you install anything.

What you get

Everything you need for practice.

👆

A roomy tap pad

Tap along on the large pad to set the tempo. You can also type a BPM or adjust it one step at a time. An occasional missed tap won’t throw off the average.

⏱️

A steady click as you practice

The metronome schedules each click on the audio clock to keep a steady beat. Adjust the tempo while it plays, without restarting.

🎼

Eight time signatures, and subdivisions

2/4 through 12/8 with the downbeat accented so you always know where the bar starts, subdivisions on top, a choice of click sounds, and vibrate on beat when the room is too loud to hear one.

🎧

It hears the tempo too

Play music near the microphone to see its BPM in real time. Send that tempo to the metronome when you’re ready to practice.

And it is on your wrist

MagicBPM also includes a watch metronome for your paired Apple Watch, plus iPad and Mac versions. Pro purchases are shared across your Apple devices using the same Apple Account.

🎁

Free, and Pro is not a subscription

The metronome, tap tempo and live detection cost nothing. Pro removes ads and adds auto song identification with a history of what it heard, as a single purchase you make once.

Questions

Is there a metronome for iPhone Duo?

Yes. MagicBPM runs on both of the Duo's screens: the whole metronome fits the cover display, so you can leave the phone shut on a music stand, and opening it spreads the same controls into two columns. It is free, and the Duo build is in TestFlight now.

How do I get it?

Join the TestFlight beta. Install Apple's TestFlight app, tap the link, and follow the prompts to install the beta. MagicBPM is also on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.

What does the metronome do?

Any tempo from 40 to 300 BPM, set with the plus and minus, typed in, or tapped in on the big pad. Eight time signatures with an accented downbeat, subdivisions, a choice of click sounds, and vibrate on beat. It keeps running while you use other apps.

Does the click drift over a long take?

The metronome schedules each click on the audio clock to keep a steady beat. Adjust the tempo while it plays, without restarting.

Can it find the tempo of a song?

Yes, that is the other half of the app. It listens through the microphone and reads the BPM live, on the device, then hands the number straight to the metronome. The how-to guide covers the awkward sources, and tap tempo is there when you would rather count it in yourself.

Do I need the phone open to use it?

No. Shut, the cover display carries the tempo, the playback controls, the time signature row and the full tap pad, which is the whole metronome. Opening it gives the same controls more room rather than a different app.

What does it cost?

The metronome, tap tempo and live BPM detection are free. Pro removes ads and adds auto song identification and the Detected Songs history, and it is a single purchase rather than a subscription.

Is there a metronome I can use right now, without installing anything?

The metronome on this page is free and needs no download or sign-up: 40 to 300 BPM, eight time signatures with an accented downbeat, and tap tempo. It runs in any browser, on either of the Duo's screens. There is a full page for it too.

What about Android foldables?

MagicBPM for Android is the same app on a Fold or a Flip, with the metronome, tap tempo and live detection, and vibrate on beat in place of the wrist haptics.
