1. Who this applies to
This Privacy Policy describes how the MagicBPM iPhone app ("MagicBPM," "the app," "we," "us") handles information. By using the app, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.
2. Information we collect
We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. MagicBPM has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no server backend that receives your information. The app functions entirely on your device.
We do not ask for your name, email address, contacts, location, photos, or any similar information in order to use the app.
3. Microphone & audio
MagicBPM uses your device's microphone for one purpose: to listen to nearby music so it can measure the tempo (BPM) in real time. iOS will ask for your permission before the app can access the microphone.
- Audio is analyzed on your device using an on-device signal-processing engine, and is then discarded. It is processed only to compute a tempo reading.
- Audio is not recorded or uploaded in normal use. No microphone audio — and nothing derived from it — is sent off your device.
- Optional local recordings. If a build of the app offers a recording feature, any recordings are created only when you explicitly choose to start one, are saved only in the app's own storage on your device, and can be deleted by you at any time. They are never uploaded by the app; they leave your device only if you choose to share them yourself (for example, via AirDrop or Mail).
4. Data stored on your device
To make the app useful, MagicBPM saves a small amount of information locally on your iPhone. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us:
- BPM history — the tempo readings you capture (a numeric BPM value, a timestamp, whether it came from live detection or tap tempo, and any label you add). No audio is stored with a reading.
- Your preferences — settings such as the detection tempo range, detection engine, capture mode, and noise-gate options.
This information is stored in the app's local storage on your device. Deleting the app removes it. You can also clear your BPM history from within the app.
5. Network & third parties
MagicBPM does not include third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking software. The app does not make network requests to share your data. The only network communication is with Apple's App Store to support in-app purchases (see below), which is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
6. Purchases
MagicBPM may offer an optional one-time in-app purchase ("MagicBPM Pro"). Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store using Apple's in-app purchase system. We do not receive or store your payment details. Apple may provide us with anonymized, aggregated sales information, but not information that identifies you personally. Your purchase entitlement is verified through Apple's StoreKit and is associated with your Apple Account, not with any account we control.
7. Analytics & tracking
We do not use analytics frameworks, crash-reporting SDKs, advertising identifiers, or any cross-app/cross-site tracking. MagicBPM does not track you, and we do not build profiles about you.
8. Children's privacy
MagicBPM does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no personal data and requires no account, it does not knowingly gather information from children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).
9. Your choices & rights
- Microphone permission can be granted or revoked at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone (or Settings → MagicBPM). Revoking it disables live detection.
- Your on-device data can be cleared by deleting your history within the app or by deleting the app, which removes all locally stored data.
- Because we do not collect or store your personal data on our servers, there is no server-side profile for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal data under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; since we do not collect such data, those requests are satisfied by the on-device controls described above. You may contact us with any questions.
10. Security & retention
Because your data stays on your device, its security is tied to your device's own protections (such as your passcode and device encryption). The data MagicBPM stores locally is retained until you delete your history or remove the app.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
