Jump straight to a common tempo

Each one opens this metronome already set and ready to play, with a note on where that tempo turns up.

Choose a tempo that suits your song or exercise. These presets are starting points; music within a genre can vary widely in tempo.

Anything else? Drag the slider above: it covers 40 to 300 BPM, one BPM at a time. You can also link straight to a tempo, as in /metronome?bpm=128.

How it works

A steady beat for your practice.

The metronome uses your browser’s audio clock to keep a steady beat. Change the tempo or time signature as you practice, without stopping playback.

🎼

Eight time signatures

From 2/4 to 12/8, with the first beat of every bar accented so the downbeat is unmistakable.

MagicBPM for Mac, iPhone, Android and Apple Watch

Take the metronome with you.

The app does everything this page does, and a good deal more. It pairs the metronome with a real-time BPM detector that hears the music around you, so you can lift a tempo off a track and practice to it straight away.

  • Subdivisions: practice against eighths, triplets, or sixteenths, with the in-between clicks under the beat so you never lose the pulse
  • Compound time that counts properly: 6/8, 9/8 and 12/8 group in threes, and 7/8 lets you pick 2+2+3 or 3+2+2
  • Pick your click: acoustic out of the box, with woodblock, claves, xylophone, cowbell, bass guitar, tambourine, shaker, triangle and more sound packs in Pro
  • Haptics on every beat, with a firmer pulse on the downbeat
  • Keeps clicking when your phone is silenced, and when you leave the app or lock the screen, with the controls on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island on iPhone and in a notification on Android

Metronome questions

Is this online metronome free?

Yes, completely free, no sign-up, and it runs entirely in your browser on phone, tablet, or computer.

How accurate is a browser metronome?

The metronome uses your browser’s audio clock to keep a steady beat. Change the tempo or time signature as you practice, without stopping playback.

Can I change the time signature?

Yes. Pick from eight signatures between 2/4 and 12/8. The first beat of each bar is accented so you can hear and see the downbeat.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. Nothing to download, nothing to install, no account to make. Open the page, press Play, and the click is generated in the browser itself. If you want one on your phone that keeps going with the screen off, that is what the app is for.

Will it keep clicking without stopping?

It keeps playing while the browser allows audio playback. Some devices may pause browser audio when you switch apps or lock the screen. Use the MagicBPM app if you need to practice with the screen off.

How fast and how slow does it go?

From 40 BPM up to 300 BPM, one BPM at a time. That covers Largo at the bottom, the 208 BPM where a traditional mechanical dial stops, and 220 or higher above it.

Can I link straight to a tempo?

Yes. Put the tempo in the address, as in magicbpm.com/metronome?bpm=128, and it opens set to it. The common tempos have their own pages too, which you can share with a student or bandmate.

The sound doesn’t play, what’s wrong?

Browsers only allow audio after you interact with the page, so press Play (or the spacebar) once to start. Make sure your device isn’t muted and the volume slider isn’t at zero.
